10 Ways to Be An Epic Dad

When a person decides to become a parent, he/she must understand that their child's well-being, happiness, and prosperity is now the priority, not themselves.  It's a tough, emotional, and tiresome job which demands 110%!  This is why stay-at-home moms/dads have my utmost respect, as it is exhausting. I know because my wife is a stay-at-home mom and 15-18 hour days are not uncommon. Additionally, being a dad takes on additional responsibilities.

In this age of social media, I believe our job as a dad has become more difficult to boot. Gone are the days, where it was easy to know your kids social circles.  It was either school, sports, church, or the surrounding neighborhood. Now, I am constantly reviewing my daughter's SnapChat and Instagram account posts, who they are following and who's following them (even the friend/follow requests). I'm seeking out any "red flags" that could put my girls security at risk. They have a never ending social lane of people whom I have no idea of who they are or who their parents are. Staying vigilant and never letting my guard down is a must and integrating this situational awareness has become part of my weekly schedule.

I'm sure any dad would understand and more than likely is doing the same. There isn't anything he wouldn't do for our kids and in this world of uncertainty, a dad must be at the top of his game in order to be "an epic dad!"

An epic dad will always:

     1. Protect his children
     2. Spend time with his kids
     3. Help them grow
     4. Sit with them when they cry
     5. Laugh with them when sh!t is funny
     6. Celebrate their accomplishments
     7. Teach them life lessons
     8. Show them how to be mentally tough
     9. Be strict at times, but loving most of the time
   10. Show them how to be safe by providing them with the tools to protect themselves
Setting our kids up for success is a battle that must be fought with determination, knowledge, perseverance.  In the SEAL Teams, we have a saying: "Complete your mission!"  Calling all dads out there...this is our mission.
